What I wanted from this ball: I haven't drilled a DV8 asymmetric ball in a few years. In the past they've been so strong and so early rolling that I don't get much opportunity to use them. I wanted to see what DV8 was up to with their new Intimidator release. I used the same layout recently used on a Roto Grip UFO (see that review from a few weeks ago) so I would have an apples to apples comparison of two balls designed for truly heavy oil conditions.

What I ended up with in this ball: The Intimidator doesn't disappoint when it comes to matching up to heavy oil lane conditions. That's certainly where this ball is at home. Medium to drier conditions, and certainly drier heads are going to be the enemy of this new DV8 release. Intimidator is super strong rolling in the front and middle distance of the lane pattern. With the strong asymmetric core combined with a 2000 grit sanded cover, this one needs oil. But when the oil is there, this ball definitely shines. I have the Intimidator slightly earlier rolling than the comparison ball (UFO), while being a little more "rounded" at the breakpoint. Instead of the sharper breakpoint the UFO displays, Intimidator makes a little more controllable rounded shape through the backend. This should make it more usable on sport patterns, fresh lane conditions, and wet/dry stuff.

I haven't bothered with changing the finish on the Intimidator. I don't see any need to try and force this heavy oil design into a medium oil lane condition. I have noticed that the Intimidator seems to hold its finish well. By using some Crown Factory Scrubbing Gel from Brunswick, the DV8 Intimidator has maintained its coarse surface. Many times the dullest balls in the market shine very quickly from use and require constant sanding and maintenance.
