The newest product in the Brunswick lineup is the Knock Out, and is has been hot at Total Bowling Gear! Brunswick has a home run benchmark product designed for medium oil, everyday league conditions here. A lot of times I throw new products and within a game or two I'm making surface adjustments, wishing I could put a weight hole in it, or trying to figure out exactly how it fits. With the Knock Out, I saw superb ball motion immediately and knew exactly how this ball would fit in the bag.
The Knock Out starts with a medium rg, medium differential core shape used previously in Brunswick's extremely popular Melee Jab. They've combined that core with a Savvy Hook 3.0 Solid coverstock, gearing this ball toward medium-heavy to medium-light oil conditions. Finished off with a 2000 grit sanded finish, it's going to match up for a very wide range of our customers right out of the box.
I went with a standard 5" pin distance to my axis point, gearing this ball to clear the front of the lane pretty easily while still providing plenty of track flare in the middle to backend portion of the lane. With the 30 degree drill angle, combined with a 30 degree VAL angle, I was looking for softer/slower transitions to the friction. It worked out perfectly with the Knock Out. I threw this ball against a Storm Phaze II in several different environments, and it performs very close to that performance. I do see the Brunswick cover being very slightly more responsive in the front of the lane. But the middle and backend motion is nearly identical to that very popular Storm made product.
I've had no need to try surface adjustments on the Knock Out, as it's too good to mess with for now. In my opinion, this ball continues far more downlane than some of the previous Brunswick launches of late, and they're definitely on to something with this combination. Don't sleep on this one! This one is going to be an extremely solid benchmark recommendation in our store for customers looking to read the lane and tell them where to play.
